How do the personal messages work???

Why are messages to a user named animator are just sitting in my Outbox, with no facility to send them? Did the user delete their account? I have no idea how to use this messaging system.

The messages are displayed in the Outbox until the user has actually read them. So this means that this specific user has received your message but has not read it yet.
