It varies a lot, get your fav board and take measurements every 2 inches or so to build a thickness profile. Deduct the thickness of your base,topsheet and glass etc and you have the core thickness measurement.
The stiffness of your core material has a direct relationship with core thickness, when trying to achieve a certain level of flex you simply have to build and test to gather the data needed to hone in on your preferred flex.
For what its worth those numbers you have sound pretty good and are worth a shot, if nothing else you will get a baseline from it.
So is 9mm underfoot too thick, and what if you do not bring the thickness down in the middle? I am asking this because there is a metric ton of info on ski core thicknesses on this site but nothing really on snowboard cores.
I realize it is subjective to weight, composites,riding style, conditions ect.
I just dont want to make a noodle or something that is too stiff.
Lets say the board is a 155cm all-mountain with a maple/poplar core, 22oz FG, CF tow, for someone that is 170lbs....

I was seeing numbers more like 6mm-7mm in the middle assuming you dont weight +220lbs if I recall correctly.
The split board cores I have seen would be closer to what you are saying I think.
There are some builds on here and they do list these numbers. You may just have to search, allot. Its not like ski building info but its here.
I think for a nice fat board 9mm would be very stiff.

For what it's worth, I'm not a snowboarder anymore but I've built a couple splitboards in the last years for friends..
I've made my core thickness between 7mm and 7.5mm : maximum core thickness from the first binding inserts in the front to the last in the tail... goes down to my tipspacer thickness (2mm) at tip and tail.
The guy I built those board for only had good comments about the boards so I guess it's not that bad as a starting point.
Layup was :
base/edges - VDS - 22oz triax - Core - 22oz triax - Topsheet

No I have not, I actually am building for someone else, and I rarely ride myself.

9 is stiff as a board.
On a 155 I think 6.25-6.5 is about right if you're using 22 oz glass, prolly even on the stiff side.
Splitboard is an entirely different flex profile.
On the splits I built I increased my core thickness by 1.00
Depends on how much maple if it's just stingers at the insert I'd say 7mm at the thickest , if your pressing you get a stronger laminate if bagging it will end up overall thicker but weaker probably softer feel, what's your top sheet ?if none make your core a bit thicker, wood veneer top sheets ad some stiffness as well as formica not sure about plastics I have not used any yet.

DBS, I will probably go with a 6.5 underfoot. Crap, I just remembered I ordered 7mm inserts!
So how would this be then:
-Poplar core with maple stringers(at edges and at insets) profiled to 7mm underfoot and 6.5mm in center. 19oz glass
-a few tows of 12k CF(full board length)
-wood veneer topsheet.
Still a bit on the stiff side? Anybody got (12) 6.5mm inserts lying around I could buy?
Jellyfish- I am using a heated press. Entropy CPM 180d for 40min @60psi.
Grind them, done it in the past just watch out when you run screw into them...

Run the screw in from the back side, grind off both at the same time, should protect the threads.
Also gives you a bit of a handle.

putting a screw in from the backside doesn't work with regular inserts since they have a closed base.
i always put the inserts into the core, clamp down the core on some flat surface, and grind the inserts flush with the core with a die grinder.
That sounds good to me. Would definitely be on the stiff side, especially with the CF. 6.5 throughout would prolly be better.
I am sure I have some inserts laying around here. Let me check and I'll get back tomorrow with results of my search. I'll try and find my core thickness chart also.
