:: View topic - Auber pid controller settings

I have 2 standard auber 1/16 pids. no ramp soak. I set the sv to 180 f. The PV seems to read the ambient temp properly. when I turn the matts on I thought the pv display is supposed to count up until the blanket has reached it set SV temp of 180. Instead the PV counts down and goes into negative numbers? Though the blanket seems to reach proper temp. I have read the instuctions 100 times and looked online for info. I Cant figure it out. If someone out in skibuilding land could help me i would be stoked. If not, ill try calling Auber tech support tommorow. Also, still trying to get my head around manual and auto mode and what is the optimal mode to be using an why?

Are your thermocouples set up right? If the wires get reversed funny things happen, also is your controller set to the right type of thermocouple. I'm guessing you use type K like the rest of us.

If thermocouple waires are swaped then numbers go in reverse

My buddy has wired up the housing box with sockets and the J type TC from the MEI matts has a plug installed on the end which plugs into the socket. should i try flipping the 2 wires on the plug, or or the socket, or both. thanks for advice guys. I lack smarts with these things.

Post a pic of what your TC looks like. You probably have the + and - reversed someplace.

Can't say for sure about J type TC stuff but for type K yellow is + and red is -.

When using fine wire thermocouples the negative wire is the shorter one.

thanks Vinman And MM, that shorter wire comment is lifesaver. tommorow ill head over to the dungeon and peep it out. I hope its as easy as just taking the plug apart and changing the 2 wires.

I hope to get a journal together soon with lots of pics. Your guys and other have helped me out so much along the way over the last year or so since I started this venture.

Have you read the 'Supplementary Instructions Manual' @7.3? The problem may be the instructions you have provided to the controller.

To hold the temperature constant for a specific period, you need to set two steps at the same temperature.

E.g.

Step1: C01=25, t01=30

Start linear temp heating from 25C to 80-90C, over a period of 30 mins

Step2: C02=80, t02= ... 60min?

Maintain 80C for 1 hour

Step 3: C03=80, t03=-121

Stop the program and allow natural cooling. Or in this case, monitor until it reaches 50C and pull the cassette out.

I don't think he has the ramp/soak programmable one Rich.

I would check the wiring you have done yourself (the socket - positive on socket to positive on PID, negative on socket to negative on PID) before pulling apart the thermocouple plug provided by MEI.

The other thing is if the plug can go into the socket 2 ways you might just need to try the other way (my K type plug can only go in the socket in one way, but I don't know about the J type)

thanks boys, just swapped the +/- TC wires over in the plugs. Now the pids PVs are countin up to the set SV value of 180. Stoked again.
