Now this is probably a stupid question, but is it a big deal to have 1.4 mm base matched with a 1.33 mm edge steps height?
My gut says the extra .07mm just gets ground off when the based gets finished and that it would give me .07 mm of leeway in terms of making sure I end up with a flat base.
If I can do things this way it will help me cut my material costs quite a bit by buying some stuff like base in bulk. But the only problem is that I can't find edges with a 1.4mm step.
What do you guys think.

Not an issue.
Although I wouldn't take it too much further in the absence of a 3D cassette. Depending on how you ramp pressure/heat there could be an issue, I can imagine 0.15mm difference being an issue, particularly if it was race base quality.

Right on thanks Rich. This is going to cut my overall cost for base by 2/3.

Seems like having a taller edge than base would be easier, the edge sands down much easier than the base. With a taller base, you'll have to do a bit more grinding. But 0.07mm isn't too bad.
Maybe if you intentionally made your bases slightly concave, you'd have less to grind? (and all of the ski builders cringe
)

all the base that crown make is about +/- .1mm, so it varies.
I have some white extruded that is 1.56mm. Nightmare to grind on my grinder, takes about an hour each ski. Said I would never use that stuff but its hard to find white base.
Thinner base sucks because you have to grind edge and it doesn't work very well and you get concave base sometimes.
CDW can make any offset you want you just have to order a 400 pound spool or like 300 pairs of skis worth for your custom edge offset.
on3p uses like a 1.6mm base and thus a bigger edge offset.

Thanks for the info guys. I think this will work out just fine for me. .07mm is pretty small.

IIRC CDW edges 1.4mm not 1.3mm

na 1.3 offset 2.2mm wide.
prolly have a varience of .05mm anyway.

The edges on the blank slate site say 1.33 step ht.

There are a lot of different edge profiles with very little difference.. It really depends on what you or your supplier ordered.
