Ive been thinking for a while and I wonder if you can use single piece of wood as a core without any lamination. If you can finde a piece without any knots you can buy it with the desired width (about 1 cm) and you will only have to cut it with the right shape. Its easier. Does it have works well?
I was thinking of doing the same thing but never got around to it. It's definitely worth a shot but I can't say for sure whether it will work or not.

Has anybody had any experience of sourcing hardwood for cores in the UK ? I've tried a heap of places locally but keep getting outrageous quotes (>100, just for unfinished planks). Just after a bit of either Maple or Ash to start with.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm quickly running out of ideas (and cash!).

You can buy (machined) woodores from Hess at 25/40 euros per pair. Ask me if you are interested.

I was just looking for plain old Fir and couldn't find any let alone the Aspen I would have liked. Most places in the uk either have plain old Pine or SPF which could ce spruce, pine or fir but they don't know. And I don't know how to tell by just looking at it.

They're badly backourdered and out of stock. I'm having to resort to scrounging what I can from mildly used skis I'm finding at thrift stores and ski shops.
It is a real pain in the ass to tear out the edges, clean them up, and rebend them.

I'm having simular issues. It's pretty diffucult having to be totally reliant on just one source for an item as important as the metal edges. I don't know at this time what it would take, but count me in on a team effort to find another source, even a European manufacturer, so that we can have a more available resource for edges. I'm not knocking SBM, I can only try to imagine how difficult it must be to try to project how many edges might sell in the next few months. And I'm sure it takes a long time to receive a shipment from Europe... manufacturing lead times, shipping via boat, customs, etc.
I'd also be interested in stainless steel and dimensionally larger edges.
Tearing edges out of old skis!!?? Man, I wish that I had some extra edges I could send you. That sounds like an awful chore.
