New Shop

So i the past month and a half we've undergone the joys of moving our shop 230 miles north to Boyne City, MI and it has been one hell of a ride. We've had tons of issues with our new building from getting electricity re-connected (http://sccskis.com/2011/07/problems-wit ... e-factory/) to making it handicap accessible. It was a long July but we're almost done with our renovations/partitions and should be building by next week.

Here are some pics of what we've been up to.

@skidesmond yeah, it was extremely frustrating dealing with the electric company, but fortunately for us that blog post found it's way to Consumers Energy customer service and we had electricity the following Tuesday (post went up on a Friday). It's pretty amazing how it circled and we even had their regional manager call a apologize a ton.

Anyways, we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel! The shop is back up and ready to start working. We've been working on the finishing touches for the past few days and it finally is just about done.

Sorting a few cores

Wow really coming together. I noticed the small orange press w/ the hydraulic jack. What's that used for?

We used to use it for die cuts but we really need a clicker or roll press for that. It's always good to have a shop press around though, you never know when you're going to need it...

We're getting ready for our grand opening party/ribbon cutting this Saturday (9-10-11), so we've been pretty busy lately. More to come soon.

Hey Jeff, I enjoyed visiting your shop for the open house yesterday, looks like you and your dad have been working your asses off. So many great tools, looks like you guys are really getting your processes down.

We're really bad about updating this stuff...

But here's what we've been doing. Today we shaped 50 pair of cores (finally made a dent in our seemingly never ending pile).

Over the past week we also made about 12 new cassettes.

We need more storage for cores!

And finally after moving around too many shops with us in Denver and lower Michigan then finally to Boyne City, our Wintersteiger Microjet Pro will be doing our grinding. Just hit the bases on a manual belt grinder (we now have 2 Monty's, 1 Fontaine, and 1 Wintersteiger) and send it to the robot. We can program the grinding pressure and number of passes with the belt and stone, it's amazing what the thing can do! Video of it grinding skis coming soon.

wow you guys are crazy.

How many pairs will you get out of each cassette after epoxy gets all in there?

Are those all pop riveted?

I assume you guys have uses that cassette technique before?

We easily get 25-30 pair before they need to a good cleaning, we just make sure to blow everything out of them after each pressing and spray release religiously.

We've used this method for around 4 years and it works really well for keeping everything lined up.

what do you use for spray release? You're saying you dont even need to clean them after each use?

We do clean them after every use, we use a putty knife and air. The release is a silicone based mold release from General Chemical.
