I haven't used them, but there's a thread over at ttips talking about these kind of inserts...

I used some similar, much lower quality though, inserts and they have worked great. I am using salomon downhill bindings and the inserts hold them extremely well. One thing to note is that it took a lot of effort to mount the inserts compared with just mounting a pair of bindings using the normal way.

I am trying to get quotes for tooling, but I want stainless edges, and get them in uncut rolls. Anyone interested? I will post back when I have a quote but I figure the more we can split the tooling cost the better. I am in the US, Mass to be exact.

So, What is Peel Ply? And, is it easily found?

Peel ply is a layer of polyester or nylon that does not stick to the epoxy. You lay it on during your lay up and once the epoxy cures, it should peel right off. It'll leave a little texture but should go away after you apply a few coats of polyureathane. It should be available at most specialty fiberglass/marine stores. I just found this link, but don't know anything about them.
A smooth layer of plastic that doesn't bond (i.e. UHMW) would work too and will give you a smooth finish without the slight texture.
