few things.

i know im some what new, but just a small comparison to other forum sites.

1. video embedding. that would be nice.

2. auto photo embed. so instead of doing the in betweeen every picture, just make an auto picture pop up from a link.

3. there should some sort of cinematographic sharing area aswell. www.newschoolers.com has it. they are a skiing community, so are we.

4. some more color and graphics around the forum would be nice.

5. a REAL home page for the forum. with news, updates, ARTICLES, and how -tos

6. a way to update/ edit your poll.

******** 7. ******* SPECIFICALY FOR JOURNALS ****** *****

in my opinion the journal should be more like a photo on face book. where everything from the journal in shown in ONE large post ( like the picture )and any advice from other people or other replies and what not should be slightly smaller and less bold ( like the comments for a photo ).

these are great ideas!!

Are you going to write all that code and do the design or find someone to do it for free?

hey, im just giving suggestions.

and there's alot of techy people on youtube who show how to do things like that for a website.

just sayin'

Love the idea for the journals, that would make things way better! Sometimes you update things months later to the same journal thread, and there are pages and pages of posts between updates. Granted you can always go and edit your original post, I suppose.

I personally like how the site is very plain with no graphics and busy stuff though. It lets us get down to business, ski making, no other nonsense. You mention Newschoolers, I joined newschoolers back when there was like 200 people on there total, many years ago. Back then it was nice and simple, plain, just a few photos uploaded, a great community. But now it's nothing but advertisements, that site is ruined. It would be a terrible shame if SkiBuilders were to fall to that same level of popularity and advertising.

I like the DIY nature of the site, even when MM chews people out for not getting off their ass before asking questions - funny and it keeps people close to the journey. As we seem to be jamming it up with the same questions, we could do with a way of resurrecting some of the old posts and keeping them current?

??

I try and reserve my asshattery for tgr but I guess it bleeds from one ski website to the next sometimes.

I kind of like the no-frills aspect of the sight. All that frill stuff stuff cost $$$. Somebody would have to pay for it and it would come through advertisements and obnoxious pop-ups, etc. You can always have a link to a blog/journal through your profile.

Nothing wrong with using hot links. Keeps the site small, otherwise skibuilders.com would have to host everything and that would take up more dasd and more $$$ to store reams of video, pics, etc. Sure dasd is cheap but still cost $$$.

I agree the 'How-To' section could use some updating. A lot of progress and techniques have been made since the inception of the site. But then a again it shows that ski building isn't about having 10's of thousands of dollars in machinery. But it gives you enough info to start thinking and researching. And for those who are lazy, IE don't feel like searching, reading, researching, etc... well... watch more TV.

Some stuff could be archived but there's a lot of good info in there. A lot of the problem solving and experimenting was done early on. So it's still relevant.

I haven't looked at a lot if ski sites but from what I've seen we're actually building skis/snow boards, not just talking about them.

even after all of this, i still think the journal and how tos should be the done differently.

btw asshattery? wtf?

next time i have an inquiry, i will look for posts from before instead of reposting it

Has anyone asked Kam et al about posting new videos? There's a user's photo forum, maybe it should be a video forum (links instead of embedded)
